Dustin’s foundation began early, working alongside his father, a residential carpenter and builder. That experience grew into formal training in architectural drafting, a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, and professional experience coordinating complex building systems.
Before founding Hetrick Design, Dustin contributed to the coordination and documentation of complex federal projects, including new U.S. embassy facilities. That work strengthened his ability to manage technical detail, collaborate across disciplines, and maintain design clarity through demanding project requirements.
Today, his focus is custom residential design—creating homes, additions, and specialty structures that combine enduring character, thoughtful planning, and practical construction knowledge. Decisions are developed with equal attention to how a home looks, how it feels, and how it will actually be built.
Dustin has always noticed the details others may pass over, while holding an equally strong appreciation for beauty, harmony, and craftsmanship in everyday life. That combination shapes a design approach in which careful resolution and visual character are never treated as competing priorities.
The studio draws from timeless principles of proportion, composition, and enduring regional character, then gives them a refined modern edge through cleaner detailing, thoughtful technology, and spaces shaped for contemporary family life.
